Where is the software update for E71?

I’m sure you are familiar with the news about finally released software update for Nokia E71 and E66.  I’m not writing about it because my E71-1 still doesn’t get the new software. I have the newest Nokia Software Update on my PC (v1.4.64 pl) but no update is available for me. The same about checking update with a product code at Nokia Software Update web page. How about yours E71s?

I have the same problem here in Sweden.

  2. 2 Marc November 12, 2008 at 7:58 pm

    Hi Dexter,

    I’m also waiting for that.

BTW, I found some odd behaviour on my phone, when I tried to read the SW version. I entered *#0000# and get only a beep as a result, but no information. When I press a number key after that the labels above the softkeys go away. Have a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSkSY2FI4l0

Is that a known bug? I own the phone only since a couple of days and I’m thinking about returning it…

    Any idea?

Anyway, I’m glad I found your site! Good work!

    Same in Italy.

  4. 4 Jean Luc Etorie November 12, 2008 at 8:12 pm

same problem in France, still no update

  5. 5 Dexter November 12, 2008 at 8:13 pm

    Hi Marc,

Interesting behavior. My E71 shows SW version properly. Have you tried any other codes like *#06#? or the code for WLAN MAC? Do you observe any other bugs like this?

  6. 6 Vorderstraße Dirk November 12, 2008 at 8:34 pm

    Same in Germany. Got my E71 last week from o2, the only “branding” is a non-deletable Sync-Entry and o2-favlinks. No Update available. *#0000# says 100.07.76, 08-06-2008, RM-346, (c) Nokia E71-1 (227.02). Dirk

Hi there i have the same problem in Qatar, no update as
    far as now…

  8. 8 C November 12, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Same problem in France for me

  9. 9 Marc November 12, 2008 at 9:11 pm

    it’s the same with *#06#.

I’m also returned to the homescreen when I type part of a name, select it from the list of matches and press Dial. Only after I press a number key I am presented with the numbers that are associated with that contact.

    Strange, isn’t it?

Check out comments under this post:

Seems like only some Asian Product Codes got the update so far… Mine is 0558797 (Polish), I’m checking for the upgrade via NSU few times a day, and still nothing. 😦

  11. 11 Hiro November 12, 2008 at 11:17 pm

I’m from Indonesia and there is no update either for my E71. Actually, maybe the same with all asian E71 users is that the only firmware update fix that we really want is an update that can enable smart dialing for our asian E71 versions.

  12. 12 Sal November 13, 2008 at 12:25 am

    Same in Brazil.

  13. 13 Laffite November 13, 2008 at 2:13 am

Well, mine one is the RM-407 branded from Brazilian Carrier “Vivo”, 2 weeks with it.
I’ve checked NSU since last week and few hours ago and still nothing, don’t know if the fact of be a branded phone matters.

I got mine (India) yesterday. Release notes say that MfE is now 2.5 but I still have the old 2.0.7 version…anyone else seeing this?

  15. 15 syradan November 13, 2008 at 7:33 am

a friend by nokia told me, that the sw update does not appear simultaneously on all region. sad, but we have to wait for it yet.
i check nsu every day for the update 🙂 still nothing in hungary 😦

  16. 16 Ash November 13, 2008 at 9:12 am

Hey! I got the update and I must say that the camera quality has improved drastically!!!

  17. 17 Jurgen November 13, 2008 at 9:54 am

    Same in the U.K.

  18. 19 Jim November 13, 2008 at 6:59 pm

here in the states we’re hoping President Elect Obama will pressure Nokia to get us the update sometime soon.

  19. 20 smoke November 13, 2008 at 7:04 pm

i’m in mexico, my operator is Telcel and i still have the
    100.07.76, 08-06-2008, RM-357, (c) Nokia E71-2 (269.04)

  20. 21 Martin November 14, 2008 at 1:00 am

I used NSS to change the product code to Singapore one and updated. Unfortunately I have to update again as I have a keyboard with baltic characters.

  21. 22 VAN November 14, 2008 at 3:38 am

Here are my observations on the update:

    1. Start up time slightly faster
    2. Definite improvement in loudspeaker volume and quality
    3. Camera SEEMS slightly better but I can’t be really sure
    4. MfE sync is faster and less error-prone
    5. HUGE, MASSIVE, INCREDIBLE improvement in GPS performance. Maps lock-on used to take me 3-5 minutes, now it locks on and shows ‘My Position’ in under 30 SECONDS.
    6. Overall speed of operation is a bit quicker than before.
    7. Web browser is a bit faster – but I use Opera Mini anyway and that’s quick

    Anyone else notice anything else?

  22. 23 Gibran November 14, 2008 at 5:18 am

    Hi, i’m from malaysia.

i just got a replacement phone from nokia yesterday for a problem with my previous e71. the replacement phone comes with 110.07.127 RM-346 E71-1 (26) preloaded.

I don’t seem to notice any clear improvement. feels about the same to me.

  23. 24 Vassilis November 14, 2008 at 8:10 am

No go yet here in Greece (vodafone)

  24. 25 Rotkaeqpchen November 14, 2008 at 1:11 pm

    Das selbe Problem in Deutschland…
So far, no Update via NSU in Germany. ;(

  25. 26 Armando November 14, 2008 at 4:45 pm

Yet nothing via NSU for my E71 (Hungarian product code).

  26. 27 Alok November 15, 2008 at 11:33 am

Got the software update here in India last night. Seems to be working fine. Not much change in camera quality I am afraid and neither has the purple tint gone.

  27. 28 Claudio November 15, 2008 at 7:25 pm

I am in Mexico City, and I think it is TERRIBLE lack of Public relations from Nokia and a very stupid thing not to be over the counter explaining their hot core costumers what ´s going on with the scheduling of the new update releases. It is simple; comunication always wins and the opposite is true.
It is a sad, sad business indeed for the PR people in Nokia. Maybe next time I will think before I buy…even thought I am a Nokia man.

  28. 29 Mike November 16, 2008 at 6:26 pm

Still nothing here in Finland. Bummer.

  29. 30 jona November 17, 2008 at 4:08 am

got the new firmware but fring and skyfire is not working anymore? anyone else having the same problem? does this mean the new firmware doesnt support fring?

  30. 31 Chris November 17, 2008 at 10:27 am

Got the update here in Australia by using a different AU product code for the E71.

All going well, all be it after a heartache with my PC loosing power while applying the new firmware to the phone!

  31. 32 Mike November 21, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Testing update availabilities for several E71 codes for Germany:

    0569284 = E-Plus Grey Steel – no update available
    0569287 = O2 DE – no update available
    0570273 = Vodafone D2 – no update available
    0570377 = T-Mobile DE – no update available
0561088: CTR EURO C WHITE STEEL – Update available
0558785: EURO C GERMANY GREY STEEL – Update available

Nokia pursues a really strange kind of policy. The update to version 110.07.127 was announced by Nokia themselves on Nov. 10th. But for most of the mobiles there is still nothing available. And you don’t even know if it will be one day. Do we all have to go through that stupid NCS-procedure to get our devices updated?

  32. 34 hsa January 15, 2009 at 1:06 am

damn vista can’t run NSU so i installed xp only for this and now no update for germany. this sucks

  33. 35 Kyoshiro January 16, 2009 at 6:47 pm

I have also a german vodafone version (pc:0570273) of nokia’s e71 and as mentioned above there is currently no update available.
As I remember the times of my N73 – also a german vodafone version – I had to wait several months till the update got available for the phone. I think this depends on the branding as nokia and the provider who’s branded for have to check the compatibility with the updates. Also the branding may have to be included into the new version.
But be warned: After upgrading the N73 software the sync with Apple’s iSync via bluetooth didn’t work any more! So updates might not fix issues only, they can also produce some new ones! And, btw, I couldn’t restore the previous software of the N73 yet, as the NSU lacks a software downgrade functionality!

Changing the NAM code of your mobile will make it possible to upgrade….
