[Update]: Skyfire for E71 available now!

Very promising and awaited mobile web browser Skyfire, which is in its beta testing phase, soon should be available for Nokia S60 devices (N and E series)! In today’s announcement E71 has been mentioned as one of supported devices..

“Nokia users, we support more phones on the Symbian Series 60 (3rd edition) platform. We’ve added the Nokia E62, E71, N75, N80, N81 and N82 phones to the existing roster, which included the Nokia E61i, E61, N73, N76, and N95 phones.”

Unfortunately previous and current beta tests are still closed for US users only. As my US carrier card is no longer valid I won’t be able to test it in Europe :/

[Update]: As you may see in readers comments, for the post before an update, test version of Skyfire is available not only for US testers! All you need to do is register your profile on Skyfire web page, input any mobile number (I tried successfully with my outdated US pre-paid card) and download it to your PC. After installation and first start up Skyfire crashed my phone actually, but now seems to work fine.

If you have Skyfire on your E71 please let me know what version it is? Mine shows so I think it is not yet announced 0.8 release. How about yours?

I’ve been using skyfire beta on my E71 for a while, and it is great!

I’m very wary about its profit model, though. Will the final version require that you log in every time? I definitely distrust that – that kind of data-mining at my expense is seriously uncool.

FYI: I was able to download and run the beta version even though i live in sweden… I provided some bogus phone number on the download page (I recall it took a few tries to get it right) and got a download link…

    Hi gurra,

Huge thanks for the hint! Indeed only a valid US mobile number was all I needed to get the install. As far as I remeber in previous test phase it was not downloadable via PC 😉

I am from Austria, Europe. I just entered any phone number and I am using it on my E71 device.

Greets fly out from Vienna! Georg

Hi guys i am a uk user and i have downloaded skyfire. Basically if you take off the ‘0’ when you enter your mobile number on download, then you will get an email. In the email you can download the software to your computer and then bluetooth to your mobile. I have used skyfire today and i find it very slow…still alot of work to do.

I like Skyfire, it’s quite versatile. However, it makes my phone’s SS back cover heat up quite a bit, drains the battery quickly, and crashes after a while.

    Nice app though.

I am in India, but I had no trouble downoading it on my PC and then intalling it to my E71. Works great. Didnot crash even a single time yet. The version is I downloaded a couple of days ago. The newer version is not available yet.

My is version 8 but it’s somehow sluggish. And youtube i cannot get to work with sound. Any ideas would be appreciated. Apart from obvious ones like checking if the sound is muted in skyfire menu.
