E71′ keyboard hints!

Oh my.. I was looking for it! As you may know Nokia E51 has special Bluetooth symbol on star (*) key, so it’s easy to find out, it can switch on and off Bluetooth module. Nokia E71 has quite “crowded” keyboard, so it’s not so clearly marked, but you can do the same with long pressing star (* and U) key too! How helpful it is! What else is hidden? Try these:

  • long # pressing switches phone between Normal and Silent mode,
  • long 0 pressing activates web browser, second press leads you to browser’s bookmarks,
  • shift and return (or click navi-button) to mark a single item, like text message,
  • shift and navi-button pressed down to mark multiple items.

OMG, you didn’t know that?? These are the features of all the latest S60 v3 FP1 based mobiles. And marking items with shift/fn used to work even with E61(i).

The # trick does not work on the E71-2 (NAM) with the contact search activated.

I am happy to get my E71 today.

The “#” key don’t work for me too, it triggers “Change outgoing phone line?”.

Do you know how to change silent mode?

    Kansir,

What variant do you have? Any operator’s customization?
Do you use any services like ALS or HomeZone?

#-key hint wokrs fine on my e71 (PL, retail version).

Heres another keyboard tip. Sorry if you guys knew about this before. While doing the contact search in stanby mode, remember the number keys dont display the corresponding letters? If you find it wierd, you can over ride it by tapping the function key once. Now only the letters show up instead of a mix of both.
Its infact a handy way to type out a quick line in standby!
    E71 rox!

Anyone know a keyboard shortcut to do brackets (or a third party app)? Fed up of going into the menus each time…

To change the writing language, or to switch on/off the
predictive text input, press the function key + spacebar,
and select from the available options.

    Hey there dude,

Personally i am a late bloomer, I just bought the E71 and am going through your great blog post by post.

About the shortcuts, the # worked fine with me (ME edition) however I just wanted to point out that the mark function just needed the shift button and not shit + return.

Wasn’t it like that with the E61? Just thought you should know…

Cheers and thanks for all these useful tips…

    Hi,
The button indicating ! and ? when pressed shows ‘ for some reason and I don’t know how to fix it. Is it a problem with the particular mobile or do I need to do something?
    Any help?
    Thanks
