Nokia N97: N-series finally gets the touch!

Have you seen countdown clock at events.snokia.com lately? Finally we know what it was about! During Nokia World Show in Barcelona brand new Nokia N-series device – N97 has been announced!

One-word comment: Wow! Two-words comment? Wow, finally!

N97 will be Symbian S60-based device, which can be a true competitor of Apple iPhone 3G, or Windows Mobile using smartphones from HTC, Samsung or LG. You may prefer Apple UI, but surely with Symbian speed it will give a punch to slow Windows phones.

A quick look at N97 specification assures that even in mid 2009, when it will be commercially released, it will be strong competitor of all multimedia & messaging-oriented phones. Accelerometer allows working in portrait mode with a touchscreen, or a full QWERTY keyboard used in landscape mode. Moreover, Nokia finally gains the advantage which G1 with Google’s Android has over iPhone. Impressive 32GB of internal memory, expandable by even 16 GB huge SDHC card will be really hard to be filled up with music and movies. You can read an interesting comment about N97 at dial a phone blog.

For Symbian loving users, like me, the most important feature will be the 5th edition of S60 operating system. So far it has been available only in Nokia XpressMusic 5800. As we can see from promo movie it looks really impressive and customizable. I will keep fingers crossed for a soon release date and fast operating system.
