Symbian Freak blog announced that finally a new version of software for both Nokia E71 and E66 will be available soon, or already is available for some variants. According to the blog this SW update (version 110.07.127) will offer to E71 users:

I wonder if they can “fix” the speaker phone “issue”. On the E61, I could call someone and then immediately put it on speakerphone but now, on the E71, I have to wait for the connection to be made and the ringing to start before I can switch it to speakerphone.

however, you cannot use the ‘installserver.ex’e hack on this firmware.

One problem I have with my firmware, probably the most important to me, is the inability to use norwegian characters. I bought the phone in another country, so just want a firmware for Scandinavia. Any possibility of getting this firmware, even without waiting for the NEW firmware?
Phoenix is a phone flashing application. You need to acquire firmware rom to flash your phone. I would be better just to wait till the offical update is available.

sorry i got confused with the nokia suite. that wanted to install a update before i could use the SWU.
Well, one thing is good about the firmware not being published yet: they have time to refresh that changelog. To me, it doesn’t really fix anything major. The only things that I care about in the log are: “Camera, BT and browser improvements”.
No word about the FP2, or improvements to the overall UI (e.g. more font size options). People have reported a lot more desired changes than that and that changelog manages to avoid almost 90% of them.
I do understand though that some people have requested such overhauls of the whole OS that Nokia is going to have to come up with “Feature Pack 3″ to fully please their crowd.
Hey guys!! I am facing a unique problem with my e71. First the blue tooth stopped working – I could not switch the BT on. and now the mail for exchange has stopped working. Tried running software update-it says vital components missing. Am at a loss what to do. Can any one help?

Currently in India the software(firmware) upgrade is available at Nokia Care centers. The latest version for E71-1 is 110.07.127 (09-10-2008). Best of Luck!
Are you sure, since I walked into the Nokia Care Centre and they said there is no Firmware Upgrade available.
Moreover, whatever changes / improvements mentioned have been icorporated.. What do you find different

According to Nokia http://europe.nokia.com/A4577225 the latest firmware was released for E71 today on NSU. Unfortunately the E71-2 (RM-357 0559585) still does not show an available update. I really hope Nokia doesn’t take their time releasing a NA version of the software. I really don’t understand why it seems to be so hard to release updates for ALL hardware revisions at the same time.
Yes the latest (at this point of time) firmware for E71-1 in India is available at Nokia Care centers (not sure if Nokia Care all have), I got my firmware upgraded to 110.07.127 at Ameerpet, Hyderabad, India. I sent a mail to Nokia support, and got the reply, and after that only I visited the Nokia Center. Please try sending mail to nokia support (support.services@nokia.com).
Got my phone back from Nokia Care centre yesterday evening. Software was updated to 110.07.127, dated 09-10-2008, RM-346, E71-1(26).
Still trying to figure out what has changed. Camera a little less purple?? Or maybe it’s my imagination.
Had to send it in because the keypad was malfunctioning. Would get multiple characters when pressing “w”, “s”, “x”, “o”, “l” or “.” keys. The D-pad “down” key was also generating a weird combination of controls and characters. The Service Report states: ASIP 10-CH LCD FILTER W/ESD BGA24. Unfortunately, the key pad has some play in the top left menu key now. Well, I guess perfection is hard to come by. It is still a great phone though. Found out how useful it was when I had to live without it for 5 days…

Updated but want to roll back to previous firmware because of unsigned application installation denial, even with “install all aplications” selected. Be aware of that prior to update.

whats wrong with these nokia guys… after updating my e71… the performance has got degraded…. i hear some kind of strange sound with the beeps, bluetooth transfer rate is decreased(almost 60%), browser suddenly closes off while browsing and many more problems…. is updating meant to solve problems are create problems… why is this happening?? i’m pissed of using this phone after updating….

I can assure u, my previous E61 worked beautifully, but not the new E71.
after completing a call, the phone just hangs up on me, with a hazy
screen. i need to unplug the battery and reboot to start functioning.

rm346 updated just now to 200.21.118 still donno what really changed but i did lose out on a few apps that i had installed on the phone and the CONTACTS dont seem to work i press the contacts TAB and nothing would happen if i try typing a name it still wudnt work .. i made a copy of the backup on memory card and the pc suite recovered the music files and images but contacts wont work any help?

Trying to update my E71, but after the update starts, the phone switches of (blank screen) and then switches on again. A few minutes later, it says that the contact with the phone has been lost and can’t proceed blah blah blah. Has anyone come across this? How do I fix it???

Sure it has added some nice new features but it has made my phone buggy and it has destroyed the ability to install the Nokia Push email app. I also had to re-install the firmware because the first time through it left the phone in an unusable state. When I pressed the headset to dial the phone would reboot, and if I could get it to dial it would freeze and give memory errors.
I am almost at the point of just getting rid of this phone and finding something else. Almost the same experience as I had with the P1i-awesome phone but crap software.
Seriously, how can Nokia expect business people to use this thing??

I just moved over to an E71 from 6300.
Im really dissapointed with the software in general.
Here are my key findings:
The phone locks itself after only a few moments. This means you have to go in and unlock it everytime and pressing the centre key doesnt illuminate the screen enought to see the promt you to unlock.
I like to set up the centre key so i can access what i want. So up for log, down for contacts, right for new sms etc. However, with homescreen on that feature is redundant coz it just moves the cursor around.. so i cant use the home screen feature.
There is no ‘recently used contacts’ option when sending sms.
When the alarm is set, the icon is a small bell … but placed on compleltey the opposite side from the clock! WHY!? I want it to be next to the time! And i want it big. And why cant i have a big clock so I can see the time properly, and why does PM float under the time? The analogue clock is uselss too.
There is no option for adjusting the ‘snooze’ period.
Why does the centre key breathe ALL the time. I need to have my phone facing down at night or in the case.
I understand new phones have a learning curve, but
If there is no consistency between products then how can they expect to retain customers. I may as well learn a new phone from scratch and try something more intuative.
I think this is one of the best looking smart phones on the market, but the software is just so weird and crap, i think i should have got a blackberry.

Hi can anyone help, my e71′s keypad has frozen. I have taken out battery and started again i can see people ringing me and texts coming in but i cannot press the buttons…I have a lot of pictures and texts on the phone, is there a way i can clear the phone onto my laptop maybe…. or like an ipod is there a combination of buttons that will unfreeze it…thanks!
